Reporting Structure
The Key Contracts and Business Development Manager of Inspection Services (IS) will report to the Director of Inspection Services.
Job Purpose
The Key Contracts and Business Development Manager will be responsible for driving business growth through the creation and management of high-quality bids and proposals. This role involves collaborating with various departments to develop, write, and submit compelling proposals that align with the organisation’s objectives for growth.
Additionally, the Key Contracts and Business Development Manager will oversee the negotiation, preparation, and management of contracts to ensure compliance and successful project delivery.
This role would suit someone from an Environmental Consultancy background who enjoys dealing with a variety of clients.
Context
The Key Contracts and Business Development Manager will manage large-scale contracts, drive growth, including proposal and bid writing, and provide support to the Director of Inspection Services and Managers in Inspection Services, who are currently responsible for the following teams.
- Environmental Projects
- Trade Effluent Licensing Inspection Services (TELIS)
- Waste Enforcement Services (WES)
- Regional Waste Management Planning Office (RWMPO)
Business Development & Strategy
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities in alignment with the company’s strategic goals.
- Develop and maintain relationships with prospective clients, partners, and stakeholders.
- Research and analyse market trends, competitor activity, and potential clients to inform business development strategies.
- Assist in the creation of sales and marketing collateral to support business development efforts.
- Attend networking events and meetings to represent the company and expand business opportunities.
Bid Writing & Proposal Management
- Lead the end-to-end bid writing process, from initial qualification to final submission, ensuring compliance with client requirements and deadlines.
- Write persuasive, tailored proposals that address client needs, demonstrate the company’s capabilities, and highlight value propositions.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs), senior leadership, and operational teams to gather information and produce content.
- Develop and manage bid timelines, ensuring all contributors meet internal deadlines.
- Proof read and edit bid documents to ensure they are clear, professional, and error-free.
- Monitor and track submission progress, ensuring compliance with the proposal guidelines and format requirements.
- Maintain the existing Tender/Bid Library.
Contract Management
- Oversee the preparation, negotiation, and finalisation of contracts with clients, suppliers, and partners.
- Ensure that all contracts comply with company policies, legal requirements, and industry standards.
- Work closely with legal and finance teams to address contract terms and conditions, focusing on risk management and compliance.
- Manage contract amendments (including price increases), renewals, and any necessary disputes, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
- Monitor and ensure the ongoing performance of contracts, maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders.
- Maintain detailed records of contracts, bids, and proposal documents, ensuring easy access for audits or future reference.
- Client Liaison and contract management
Project Coordination & Stakeholder Management
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure a smooth transition from bid submission to contract execution and project delivery. Assist in the development of mobilisation plans for all projects.
- Assist the Principal Environmental Consultant in providing ongoing communication and updates to clients and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assist the Principal Environmental Consultant in preparing and managing project timelines, deliverables, and reporting requirements.
- Address any client or contract-related issues promptly to maintain customer satisfaction.
Required Skills and Experience
- Must have 3- 5 years of proven experience with a passion for sales or business development, bid writing, or contract management experience, within Environmental Consultancy or an environmental-related business sector.
- Strong understanding of the bid process, including writing proposals, preparing tender submissions, and handling negotiations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling proposals and presentations.
- Ability to manage multiple bids, deadlines, and priorities effectively.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Full clean driving licence
Desirable
- A minimum of NFQ level 8 in a relevant environmental or engineering discipline.
- Strong project management and organisational skills, with attention to detail.
