{"id":14403,"date":"2026-05-20T12:36:32","date_gmt":"2026-05-20T11:36:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/amtivo.com\/us\/?post_type=resources-filter&#038;p=14403"},"modified":"2026-05-20T12:36:51","modified_gmt":"2026-05-20T11:36:51","slug":"r2-certification-news-and-updates","status":"publish","type":"resources-filter","link":"https:\/\/amtivo.com\/us\/resources\/technical\/r2-certification-news-and-updates\/","title":{"rendered":"Appendix G Requirements for R2 Certified Facilities Handling Solar Panels"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Last Update: May 2026<\/h2>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<h2>Important Update for R2-Certified Facilities<\/h2>\r\n<p>SERI has introduced Appendix G requirements for R2v3-certified facilities that handle, process, broker, or otherwise control photovoltaic (PV) modules, also known as solar panels.<\/p>\r\n<p>If your facility works with PV modules, Appendix G will need to be added to your <a href=\"https:\/\/amtivo.com\/us\/recycling-certification\/r2-responsible-recycling-certification\/\">R2 certification<\/a> scope.<\/p>\r\n<p>To support this update, your Quality Management System (QMS) and Environmental, Health and Safety Management System (EHSMS) documentation will need to be reviewed and updated to reflect Appendix G requirements.<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<h2>Does This Apply to Your Facility?<\/h2>\r\n<p>Appendix G may apply if your facility:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>Receives or stores solar panels<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Processes, repairs, reuses, or recycles PV modules<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Ships PV modules to downstream vendors<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Brokers or controls PV module transactions, even when the panels do not physically pass through your facility<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<h2>What is Appendix G?<\/h2>\r\n<p>Appendix G is the section of the R2 Standard that applies specifically to PV modules.<\/p>\r\n<p>It introduces additional requirements to support the responsible handling, tracking, and management of solar panels throughout the recycling and reuse process.<\/p>\r\n<p>If Appendix G applies to your operations, your R2 certification scope will need to be updated to include it.<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<h2>What Your Facility Needs To Do<\/h2>\r\n<p>If your facility handles or controls PV modules, the next steps are straightforward:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>Schedule an on-site scope extension audit<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Maintain at least three months of relevant operational records<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Demonstrate that Appendix G requirements are being implemented<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Close any nonconformities identified during the audit process before certification updates can be completed<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<p>The scope extension audit can be completed either during a regularly scheduled audit or as a separate stand-alone audit, depending on what works best for your facility.<\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<h2>Key Dates and Timeline<\/h2>\r\n<p>To help facilities prepare for the Appendix G transition, SERI has outlined the following timeline:<\/p>\r\n<table class=\"dcf-table dcf-table-responsive dcf-table-bordered dcf-table-striped dcf-w-100%\">\r\n<thead>\r\n<tr>\r\n<th scope=\"col\">Date<\/th>\r\n<th scope=\"col\">What this means for your facility<\/th>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n<\/thead>\r\n<tbody>\r\n<tr>\r\n<th style=\"text-align: left;\" scope=\"row\">By September 30th, 2026<\/th>\r\n<td data-label=\"What this means for your facility \">Schedule the scope extension audit to add Appendix G to your R2 certification scope<\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n<tr>\r\n<th style=\"text-align: left;\" scope=\"row\">Before January 31st, 2027<\/th>\r\n<td data-label=\"What this means for your facility \">Complete the audit process and close any nonconformities identified during the assessment<\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n<tr>\r\n<th style=\"text-align: left;\" scope=\"row\">Within six months of a stand-alone scope extension audit<\/th>\r\n<td data-label=\"What this means for your facility \">Complete any required remote or on-site follow-up activity to verify closure of nonconformities<\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n<tr>\r\n<th style=\"text-align: left;\" scope=\"row\">After January 31st, 2027<\/th>\r\n<td data-label=\"What this means for your facility \">Facilities that have not completed the required activities may enter suspension status for up to 90 days<\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n<tr>\r\n<th style=\"text-align: left;\" scope=\"row\">After the 90-day suspension period<\/th>\r\n<td data-label=\"What this means for your facility \">Certificates may be withdrawn if the outstanding requirements remain unresolved<\/td>\r\n<\/tr>\r\n<\/tbody>\r\n<\/table>\r\n<h2>\u00a0<\/h2>\r\n<h2>Scope Extension Audit Requirement<\/h2>\r\n<p>Adding Appendix G to your certification scope requires an on-site scope extension audit.
