Compliance and Ethics

Learn about Amtivo's principles in practice

The international scope of Amtivo’s operations requires us to comply with a wide range of legal, regulatory, and industry-specific requirements. As a result, corporate compliance forms a critical element of our governance framework.

We are committed to conducting business ethically, responsibly, and in accordance with all applicable laws and standards. Our Compliance Programme sets clear expectations for behaviour and decision-making, reflecting our values of integrity, competence, fairness, and reliability.

Amtivo’s reputation is one of its most valuable assets. Our stakeholders place their trust in us to act with honesty and professionalism, and we are dedicated to maintaining that trust through ethical business practices and a culture of compliance.

Compliance Principles

1. Impartiality, Conflicts of Interest & Integrity

Amtivo maintains impartiality and integrity as a certification body, basing all certification decisions solely on objective evidence of conformity or non-conformity, free from external influence. Robust controls are set in place across our documentation, our systems and our people.

Amtivo engages with an Impartiality Committee Board to provide an additional oversight, and as a business is subject to ongoing Accreditation assessments to ensure conformity against ISO/IEC 17021-1 and ISO/IEC 17065.

2. Competence

Amtivo has established, documented, and implemented procedures for defining competence criteria for personnel involved in auditing and other certification activities, and for evaluating individuals against these criteria.

3. Responsibility

Responsibility for conformity with certification requirements rests with the client organisation, not the certification body. Amtivo is responsible for evaluating sufficient objective evidence to support and justify its certification decision.

4. Openness

Amtivo provides timely, appropriate public access to information on its audit and certification processes and on organisations’ certification status, including granting, extension, maintenance, renewal, suspension, reduction of scope, withdrawal, or refusal, to maintain confidence in certification’s integrity and credibility. This includes disclosing non-confidential audit outcomes (e.g., complaint-driven audits) to relevant interested parties, and making certificate validity information publicly available upon request via electronic media or other appropriate means.

5. Confidentiality & Data Protection

Amtivo is responsible, through legally enforceable commitments, for managing all information obtained or created during its certification activities. Except where information is made publicly available by the client, or disclosure is agreed between Amtivo and the client (e.g., for responding to complaints), all other information (including that from sources other than the client) is treated as proprietary and confidential. Amtivo notifies clients in advance of any information it intends to make public and where required by law or authorised by contract to release confidential information, notifies the client or individual concerned, unless legally prohibited.

All Amtivo personnel, including employees and contractors, are bound by confidentiality obligations through employment contracts and third-party agreements, defining their responsibilities for maintaining confidentiality, including the handling and exchange of information, throughout the certification process.

6. Responsiveness to Requests for Information

All information provided by Amtivo to clients or the wider marketplace shall be accurate and not misleading at the time of publication.

7. Responsiveness to Complaints & Appeals

Any complaints and appeals received by Amtivo shall be recorded, acknowledged, investigated and responded to in accordance with the internal Complaints and Appeals Procedure.

Relevant personnel shall be involved in the investigation, taking into account their ability to be impartial, technical competence, and the relevance of their experience to the subject matter.

8. Risk-Based Approach

Amtivo is responsible for identifying risks associated with delivering competent, consistent, and impartial certification activities.

9. Anti-Bribery & Fair Business Conduct

Fair business conduct and anti-bribery practices are essential to Amtivo’s integrity, ensuring that certification decisions are earned through genuine conformity rather than influenced by improper payments, gifts, or favours. By upholding strict anti-bribery standards, Amtivo protects the credibility of the certificates it issues and safeguards trust among clients, accreditation bodies, and the wider market that its assessments are conducted fairly and without corruption.

It is a requirement for employees to report any solicitation of, or offer of, an improper payment or advantage coming to their attention.

10. Fair Labour

Controls pertaining to fair labour are contained within a suite of internal documentation, covering areas such as Modern Slavery, Equality, Inclusion and Diversity, and Anti-Slavery and Human Trafficking amongst many others.

11. Health & Safety

Health and safety is fundamental to a Amtivo’s operations, both in protecting our own personnel as we conduct audits across diverse and sometimes hazardous client sites, and in upholding our duty of care as a responsible employer. A strong commitment to health and safety also reinforces the Amtivo’s credibility, demonstrating that the rigour and responsibility we expect of certified organisations is reflected in our own practices.
