International Women’s Day Amitvo groupAs International Women’s Day celebrates women all over the world, it is important to reflect on the progress that has been made, as well as to recognise the work that still needs to be done. It is our responsibility to continue to be advocates for gender equality across all genders. So, let us all take this day to celebrate the incredible accomplishments of women everywhere and commit to making sure that every day is an International Women’s Day.

Amtivo has five core values, Performance, Collaboration, Agility, Integrity and Authenticity. Below we marry up these values with truly inspirational women throughout modern history and reflect on just why they have been etched on the walls of inspiration, demonstrating values that we can all look up to.

Performance – Karren Brady

Karren Brady is a leading British businesswoman and football executive who has had a long career of success in both fields. Her experience in football has greatly impacted her performance in business, as she has used her knowledge of the game to create a successful career in the corporate world. With her being the first female managing director in Premier League history, she understands the importance of motivating teams, managing resources, and working effectively to achieve the desired outcome.

Additionally, her passion for the game has provided her with the ambition and drive to succeed. Overall, Karren Brady’s career demonstrates her ability to leverage her experience in football to succeed in business and her performance in both fields is a testament to her skill and determination which is why she is a revolutionary example of performance.

Collaboration – Jane Goodall

Jane Goodall is an inspiring example of how collaboration can make a positive impact in the world. She has worked with many different people and organizations to help protect the chimpanzees she studied and the environment they inhabit. By working together with different charities and people, she has been able to create lasting change and promote conservation efforts.

Jane Goodall’s collaboration with other scientists, governments, and organizations has enabled her to share her findings and promote her conservation work, as well as to inspire others to join in the fight for animal rights and protection, her work has been an example of how collaboration can lead to real, lasting change.

Agility – Hedy Lamarr

Hedy Lamarr was a precedent for what Agility is in society. She was an Austrian-American actress and inventor who pioneered the technology that would one day form the basis for today’s WiFi, GPS, and Bluetooth communication systems. Having met Howard Hughes, a former US pilot, they both shared a love for innovating with Hedy saying ‘’Improving things comes naturally to me’’.

Whilst being a Hollywood movie star and starring in films such as ‘Dishonoured Lady’ and ‘White Cargo’ in the 1940s, she always took with her a small table in her dressing rooms so she could work on inventions in between takes. Her biggest invention came during the war when she created a way to guide missiles remotely using the basis for what we know today as WiFi to assist in the war efforts.

Hedy Lamarr was a real innovator for what we see as commonplace in today’s society but in the 1940s, Lamarr showed that she can adapt in whatever situation to help society with her inventions which ended with her playing a pivotal role during the end of WW2. She is a poster woman for the brand value of Agility at Amtivo as she was always adapting to the environment she was given, from World War 2 to the high style of 1940s Hollywood, she stood out as an integral part of both.

Integrity – Rosa Parks

Rosa Parks is an icon of integrity. Her refusal to move from her seat on the bus in 1955 Montgomery, Alabama was an act of civil disobedience that demonstrated her commitment to standing up for justice and doing the right thing, even in the face of oppression. Parks’ refusal to give up her seat, and her subsequent arrest, sparked the Montgomery bus boycott and helped launch the civil rights movement of the 1960s.

Parks’ life was one of consistent integrity. Her commitment to fighting for justice was undeniable and she worked tirelessly to bring equality to African Americans throughout her life. Parks was a founding member of the Montgomery Improvement Association, which organized the bus boycott, and she later became a prominent member of the NAACP. She fought for the civil rights of African Americans through her involvement in several organizations, including the SCLC and the Highlander Folk School.

Parks’ legacy remains a testament to integrity and justice. Her story is a reminder that all individuals have the power to stand up for what is right and to take action to bring about positive change. We can all learn from her example and strive to show the same level of integrity and commitment to justice.

Authenticity – Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama is a shining example of authenticity. Throughout her career, she has been known for being open, honest, and true to herself. She has never shied away from speaking her truth, and her passion and commitment to her causes are unmistakable. In her memoir, Becoming, Michelle Obama described her journey of self-discovery and highlighted the importance of authenticity in her life.

As the wife of the 44th President of the United States, Michelle Obama had a platform that allowed her to advocate for causes close to her heart. During her time in the White House, she launched the Let’s Move! Initiative to improve children’s health across the nation and championed education reform. She also worked to eliminate veteran homelessness and to support military families.

Michelle Obama was also known for her natural sense of style and her willingness to challenge societal expectations of how a First Lady should dress. She wore a range of looks, from casual to formal, and embraced her natural beauty.

Michelle Obama has been a role model for many people around the world. Her commitment to authenticity transcends generations and inspires us to be true to ourselves. She continues to embrace her own unique style and speak her truth, even when it isn’t popular. With her example of authenticity, Michelle Obama has become a beacon of hope and a reminder to never lose sight of who we are.
