ISO 9001:2015 Revision Underway

The world’s most widely adopted quality management standard, ISO 9001, is currently undergoing a formal revision process, with the updated version – ISO 9001:2026 expected to be published in Q4 2026. This update is being led by ISO/TC 176/SC 2the technical committee responsible for quality systems, and follows a systematic review confirming the need to modernise the standard.

The new revision will aim to reflect evolving market needs and technological advances while maintaining compatibility with the Annex SL framework – the common structure used across all ISO management system standards.

Key focus areas expected in the revision include:

  • Enhanced emphasis on risk-based thinking and organisational resilience
  • Greater integration of digitalisation, including quality data and process automation
  • Increased alignment with sustainability and ESG principles in quality planning
  • Strengthened focus on stakeholder needs and quality culture

ISO has confirmed that no new standard will be issued before 2026, and organisations certified to ISO 9001:2015 will have a transition period – likely 3 years – to transition to the new version once published.

Updates will be provided on this webpage, as we find out more.
