Trading businesses face the same supplier-approval scrutiny as the manufacturers they trade with – retailers and end customers need confidence that product safety and traceability are managed, even if that business doesn’t physically handle the products. BRCGS Agents & Brokers certification gives importers, exporters, brokers, and trading companies evidence of that, backed by GFSI recognition.

Whether you’re switching to Amtivo or certifying for the first time, we’ll give you a clear quote and a straightforward route to certification.

What Is the BRCGS Agents & Brokers Standard?

The BRCGS Standard for Agents & Brokers is a GFSI-recognised certification for businesses that buy, sell or facilitate the trade of food, packaging and consumer products – without manufacturing them.

It specifies the safety, quality and operational criteria such non-manufacturing businesses need in place to fulfil obligations and protect the consumer or end user of the products they trade. First published in 2014, the current version is Issue 3, in use for audits since April 2022.

Agents and brokers are a critical link in the chain of custody, able to influence their suppliers’ standards and responsible for maintaining traceability without ever handling the product. Certification to BRCGS Agents & Brokers demonstrates commitment to key safety and quality requirements.

Are You Already Certified Elsewhere?

Trading businesses review their suppliers carefully – and a certification body is a service worth reviewing like any other. If your current one isn’t delivering, the switch is simple: just book your next audit with Amtivo. Your existing certificate, grade and BRCGS Directory listing remain in place until your next audit.

Amtivo provides certification across both ends of the supply chain that trading businesses operate in, from the manufacturers they buy from to the retail supply chains they sell into, covering the full BRCGS suite of certifications. Our auditors understand how trading operations work and the certification requirements that customers place on their suppliers.

Why Trading Businesses Certify to BRCGS Agents & Brokers

Retailers, manufacturers and regulators increasingly expect proof of control from every link in the supply chain – including the agents and brokers that products are bought through. For a trading business without certification, meeting those expectations can mean repeated supplier questionnaires and customer audits, each one absorbing time that could be better spent elsewhere.

GFSI-recognised certification offers a simpler route. A single audit provides independently verified evidence of supplier management, traceability and product control processes that are widely recognised within global supply chains. As part of this, it helps keep commercially sensitive sourcing information within the business while still giving customers the confidence they need.
