ISO/IEC 42001 is a globally recognised standard that can help organisations establish and maintain an AI management system. Find out what it could do for you below.
ISO/IEC 42001 specifies requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving an AI management system. Certification involves an independent audit of the organisation's AI management system against the applicable requirements, and within a defined scope. Certification does not establish compliance with the EU AI Act, GDPR or other legislation.
Certification can provide independent confirmation that the organisation's AI management system, within its certified scope, has been audited against ISO/IEC 42001 requirements.
Certification signals that your organisation has implemented a documented, auditable AI management system – and that an independent certification body has audited it. This may be relevant in procurement processes, tender requirements, or client due diligence.
The management system can support an organisation in identifying and addressing applicable legal and regulatory requirements. Certification does not demonstrate compliance with any specific law.
The standard establishes shared terminology and requirements that can help align internal teams, boards, and external stakeholders around AI management, supported by consistent, maintained documented information.
AI management-system governance, responsibilities, risk and impact processes, operational controls, performance evaluation and continual improvement.
Organisations that develop, provide or use AI systems, subject to their context and defined AI management-system scope.
