A Private Security Authority (PSA) licence is required to install an access control system commercially in the Republic of Ireland.
For companies entering the industry for the first time, the first step is to obtain a temporary licence from the PSA. The temporary licence gives contractors the opportunity to install the required number of alarm systems (4) needed to proceed with certification.
To obtain a temporary license, you must register with a certification body (the PSA looks for evidence of registration in the application pack).
To obtain a full licence for Intruder Alarm Installation, it is necessary to have an audit against the PSA 74:2019, I.S. EN 50131-1 (Alarm Systems – Intrusion and Hold-Up Systems – Part 1: System Requirements) and I.S. CLC/TS 50131-7 (Alarm Systems-Intrusion Systems Part 7: Application Guidelines) standards.

The role of the PSA is to improve and maintain standards in the provision of security services in the State by operating a standards-based licensing system.
