Explore Transport Limited – Background
Explore Transport is a specialist supplier of Transport and Plant Hire services to a wide range of industries including construction, rail and aerospace. Working with businesses of any scale, from SMEs up to major contractors they specialise in helping companies that are looking for the very highest standard in safety, service and quality. Operating nationally, across 6 depots Explore Transport is one of the fastest-growing haulage and plant hire businesses in the UK. Since being founded in 2015 the company has grown to encompass 150 trucks, 6,000 plant hire assets and 7 depots nationwide, creating 300 jobs and generating annual revenue in excess of £70 million.
To support the business, all of the vehicles and equipment are procured from premium brands like JCB, Scania and Hitachi, backed up by best-in-class maintenance teams. The whole vehicle fleet is FORS Gold and CLOCS compliant, including premium features such as safe load indicators and 360 camera systems. Environmental performance is also of crucial importance to the business – the entire vehicle fleet complies with EURO 6 emissions standards and Explore Transport invests heavily in systems to ensure that customers can view real-time data on environmental performance, along with delivery progress and equipment on hire.
Why Did Explore Transport Seek ISO 9001 Certification?
Sarah Hardy, Quality Manager at Explore Transport explained why they choose to seek ISO 9001 certification:
“We have always seen ISO as key measure of business quality and something that many of our clients were looking for during onboarding and tender processes. We felt it was important for Explore to achieve this standard, not only to give us credibility in the market place but to act as a tool to ensure the processes and procedures we thought were right for business were actually doing their job. Having ISO 9001 acts as an important first step to opening doors with potential customers, especially with larger tier 1 contractors.”
Explore Transport has been a client of British Assessment Bureau since 2016 and Sarah commented that “the helpful nature of all the staff across departments” has been a key factor. She also noted that “The auditors that we have had in varying locations have always been so helpful in explaining their findings.”
How Did Explore Transport Feel About Their Most Recent Audit Process?
Explore Transport’s most recent audit took place during the COVID-19 lockdown and therefore BAB’s remote auditing protocols were implemented, enabling the audit to proceed remotely, using file-sharing and video conferencing technologies. Sarah noted “The call prior to the online audit proved useful as it enabled the team to ensure that all relevant files were already available for the auditor to assess.”
Sarah’s team have now implemented Sharepoint across the business, which is helping them to keep on top of their certifications, create more structure and to maintain control of operations.
