ISO Certification Transfer FAQs

Why is accreditation so important?

Although not a legal requirement, many companies do require accredited certification.

This is because their clients often request this type of certification. Depending on the sector you operate it, you could run the risk of losing out when bidding for contracts in the private and public sectors because of non-accreditation and an unrecognisable certificate.

We are confident that a UKAS-accredited certificate will be recognised by every organisation.

What is the difference between the terms ‘Accreditation’ and ‘Certification’?

Accreditation

Accreditation is when an “accreditation authority” officially recognises that a conformity assessment body is technically and organisationally capable of providing a specific service according to set standards and regulations. This recognition helps identify a qualified evaluator, making it easier to choose a reliable laboratory, inspection or certification body.

Certification

Certification is the process where a third party provides written assurance that a product, process, system or individual meets specified requirements.

Why transfer your ISO certification?

It’s not a well-known fact that you can transfer an ISO certification from one body to another. There can be a number of reasons why you may decide to do this:

  • Little value for money
  • Business re-tendering
  • Low-quality customer service and technical support
  • Mergers and Acquisitions
  • Bad experience with the certification body or assessor
  • The need for a closer working relationship
How long does It take to transfer an ISO certificate?

At British Assessment Bureau, we aim to have your certification transfer completed as quickly as possible.

In order for us to do this, you will need to sign the quote acceptance request as soon as you can so we are able to contact your previous certification body. Our time allowance for this is around 5 working days.

Can I transfer over if my certification has expired?

Expired certifications are not eligible for transfer. However, if you’d like to recertify, we can help you get back on track by supporting you with a new application.

Please contact us.

What documentation do you need to provide?

You will need to provide your latest audit report and accredited certificate to successfully transfer.

Why choose British Assessment Bureau?

As a UKAS-accredited certification body, all our ISO schemes are recognised by UKAS, ensuring we maintain the highest standards of quality and service. This commitment has made us one of the most respected and rapidly expanding certification bodies in the UK. We take pride not only in our clients’ success, but also in providing assurance that the ISO certificates we issue are credible and impartial, benefiting both you and your customers.

I have a non-accredited certificate – can I transfer to a UKAS-accredited certification?

If you hold a non-accredited certificate, you could consider switching to a UKAS-accredited certificate when evaluating your certification body. Regardless of the route you choose, the management system you implement remains the same.

However, UKAS certification carries more weight and reflects a higher level of scrutiny in your audit processes. We are happy to discuss your UKAS ISO certification needs.

What are the requirements to transfer an ISO certification to British Assessment Bureau?

The minimum requirement is that the existing certification is accredited through a recognised accreditation body (UKAS, INAB, ANAB etc). Some additional documentation, such as previous audit reports, will also need to be provided, but our Sales Team will be happy to discuss this with you.

Note: ASCB cannot be transferred as they are not recognised as per of the IAF MLFA.

How do the assessments work?

We are guided by essential mandatory requirements. Our first step is to evaluate your industry and business activities to determine how much interaction is needed with physical assets, personnel and processes. Industries with complex infrastructure or sensitive equipment may need an on-site audit to comprehensively assess compliance and operational effectiveness.

What if my scope has changed?

Certification details must remain unchanged and your current certification body must be UKAS-accredited in order to undergo a successful transfer.

If the scope has changed, we can discuss the next steps with you.

How much does certification transfer cost?

At British Assessment Bureau, we don’t believe in hidden costs. We provide a full certification quotation or a surveillance quotation that is valid for 30 days.

If you have no changes, these costs are the only your organisation will pay during certification. Simply contact us for a free quote.
