What can I expect from the certification process?

The certification process may sound daunting, but it is far more straightforward than you might think. Read our guide to ISO certification for more information on what to expect.

Will you do everything for us?

We will be in touch with you throughout the process, but it is important for you to run the project. As the certifier, we will confirm on behalf of ISO that your business conforms to the particular standard and issue your certificate.

What else can you help us with?

We can provide you with:

  • templates from our extensive toolkit;
  • training – we can provide this in-house, but we also run regular ISO training courses across the UK;
  • advice and guidance from our Auditors throughout the entire process;
  • a Gap Analysis service designed to show you what needs to be done to get you to become an ISO certified company.
Will I need to make lots of changes to get ISO certified?

You should not need to. Most organisations are already following best practices, so the process of ISO certification is often simply acknowledging that, or making small adjustments to what you’re already doing.

How long will it take to become certified?

ISO certification is not a single event, but rather an ongoing process that ensures your business complies with the requirements of its chosen standard.

Initial certification depends on how many ISO standards you are trying to achieve and the setup of your organisation. But, on average, it takes our clients approximately three to six months to get certified.

Following certification, there is a process for continual improvement and recertification. Find out more about the three-year certification cycle.

Do we have to appoint a Quality Manager?

Quality Managers aim to ensure that the product or service an organisation provides is fit for purpose this includes legal compliance and customer expectations.

You won’t need to appoint a Quality Manager. However, we recommend that but you select a designated representative or coordinator who will take responsibility in your organisation for achieving certification.

Do you provide consultancy?

If a certification company were to provide a consultancy service, there could be a conflict of interest if they then certified that work. Thankfully, you don’t need a consultant to achieve certification, and many of our clients do not use one. But if an ISO consultant is right for your business, we can help you find one. Use our short form to request a shortlist of consultants who made ba able to help.

What is the difference between an accredited and unaccredited certifier?

Accredited certifiers are subject to rigorous evaluations of their competence, methodology, and quality standards before they are allowed to certify. In our case, we are accredited by UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service), which is recognised by the British Government.

Many companies find unaccredited certification sufficient for their needs. But organisations who want to see your ISO credentials are increasingly interested in who provided the certification. By using an accredited certifier, such as ourselves, you can be sure that your certification will be performed properly, and reassure your clients that your company complies with the most rigorous standards.

Can I transfer my certification to you?

Yes, transferring your certification is easy and you don’t have to wait until renewal date. You can call our team on 0800 404 7007 to discuss your requirements.

How much does certification cost?

The cost of certification depends on the size of your organisation, how many staff you have, and the standards you want to gain certification in. Regardless of your size, we always quote a guaranteed fixed fee for certification, so you know the costs upfront.

How long will my certification last?

Your certificate will last for three years from the start date, and you will undergo an annual surveillance audit to keep it valid for that time. Find out more about the three-year ISO certification cycle.

What happens if I forget to book my surveillance audit?

Do not worry, our ongoing commitment to you is to make sure you do not forget. We will be keeping in touch with you to make sure that everything is going well after certification. Then we will be in touch before your audit is due to arrange your next assessment.
