What Is PAS 2030 Certification?

PAS 2030 is the UK standard covering the installation of energy efficiency measures (EEMs) in domestic.

PAS 2030 certification helps installations comply with industry standards and government-endorsed schemes, including the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) and the Green Deal.

PAS 2030 covers three primary types of installations:

  • Building Fabric Measures (BFM), which include insulation, glazing and doors.
  • Building Services Mechanical (BSM), which includes boilers and heating systems.
  • Building Services Electrical (BSE), which includes lighting and lighting controls.

The standard identifies best practices for installing, commissioning and handing over energy efficiency measures. It includes guidelines on technical competence, management processes, quality control and ongoing support so that the systems continue to operate as intended after installation.

Achieving PAS 2030 certification demonstrates a commitment to quality, compliance and sustainability, increasing trust among clients, stakeholders and regulatory bodies.

Your Questions Answered

Who needs PAS 2030 certification?

PAS 2030 certification is required for any company or individual installing energy efficiency measures, such as insulation or heating systems, under schemes like ECO, GBIS, SHDF, LADS or the Green Deal. It’s designed to promote correct and consistent installation practices.

Those who need PAS 2030 certification:

  • Installers providing energy efficiency installations such as insulation or heating systems.
  • Businesses acting as subcontractors in large-scale energy efficiency projects must also comply with PAS 2030 to provide quality assurance and eligibility for government programs.
  • Firms delivering energy-saving measures under ECO are required to work with PAS 2030 installers.
  • Property managers and developers involved in retrofitting existing properties for improved energy efficiency may need to engage PAS 2030-certified contractors to access funding and meet legal obligations.
Why is PAS 2030 important?

PAS 2030 is a crucial certification for companies that install energy efficiency measures in existing buildings. It helps organisations to deliver installations that are performed to high standards. It is especially important for businesses to participate in government-endorsed schemes like ECO, GBIS, SHDF, LADS or the Green Deal.

Achieving PAS 2030 is important for several reasons:

  • Supports quality and consistency – PAS 2030 standardises installation practices, reducing the risk of faults and ensuring high-quality work.
  • Builds customer trust – It acts as a mark of competence and professionalism, providing customers with confidence in the quality of installations.
  • Supports environmental goals – By contributing to lowering carbon emissions and improving building energy efficiency, PAS 2030 supports the UK’s environmental objectives.
  • Reduces long-term costs – It maximises energy savings for property owners, leading to lower energy bills and fewer maintenance needs.
  • Encourages industry improvement – Continual improvement is promoted through regular audits and staff training.
  • Supports legal compliance – It helps businesses comply with industry regulations, reducing the risk of legal issues.
Why should you become PAS 2030-certified?

  • Access to government schemes – Certification opens doors to government-endorsed schemes like the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) and the Green Deal. This allows businesses to access a wider customer base and funding opportunities for energy-saving projects.
  • Competitive advantage – With PAS 2030 accreditation, businesses can stand out in the market as certified installers, making them more appealing to clients looking for reliable, quality-assured services.
  • Improved reputation – The certification acts as a mark of quality, helping businesses build trust with customers and stakeholders. It signals a commitment to high standards, which can attract more clients and larger projects.
  • Reduced risk of installation issues – By adhering to the PAS 2030 guidelines, businesses can minimise errors during installation, reducing the likelihood of callbacks, customer complaints or warranty claims.
  • Access to training and development – Achieving certification often involves upskilling staff, leading to a more knowledgeable workforce that is well-versed in the latest industry standards and techniques.
  • Streamlined operations – The process of meeting PAS 2030 requirements helps businesses improve their internal processes and management systems, leading to greater efficiency and smoother project delivery.
  • Potential for long-term cost savings – Properly installed and compliant measures mean fewer issues down the line, saving time and money on maintenance, re-installation or non-compliance penalties.
  • Support for future growth – As the demand for energy efficiency continues to grow, certified businesses are positioned to capitalise on emerging opportunities in the market, ensuring readiness for new projects and government initiatives.
